More Liquid Lipsticks? Barry M Matte Me Up Liquid Lip Paint Review

I mentioned in my current liquid lipsticks post back in January that I really wanted to expand my collection and try out some more brands. Since then, I have tried some more NYX liquid lipsticks which I love and for my birthday, I was given two of the Barry M Matte Me Up Lip Paints from some of my family. I was given the shades Paparazzi (a very bright red) and Embellish (a mid-purple).

In terms of the texture of these liquid lipsticks, they are a lot more of a liquidy formula than the NYX liquid lipsticks and my L'Oreal Infallible liquid lipsticks. The formula does remind me of the Bourjois liquid lipsticks but I would say that this formula is even wetter. This does make them a little daunting to apply, especially if you have more bright and bold shades like I do. I went with lining and filling my lips in first with a lip-liner first to act as a stencil. Now I always go with a lip-liner under most of my lipsticks anyway but that is more for increasing longevity but for these, it is definitely more for precision.

Now despite having quite a wet formula, they do dry quite quickly. You do have enough time to apply the product but you don't have to worry about it taking too long to dry. They do have a dry matte finish similar to the Bourjois ones so that might be something to consider if you have a big problem with texture. The good thing about this formula is that even with a dry matte finish, it does not flake off even of you apply a second layer.

In terms of longevity, it has been very mixed. If you are wearing it and not going anywhere to eat or drink, you will get a great amount of wear from these lipsticks. I found when drinking, it would come off a little bit but not too badly. With food is where it has been mixed. Sometimes it would completely come off and other times it has started to come off but not completely. Either way, I would recommend always taking it with you.

Paparazzi is definitely my favourite of the two as I love the brightness and I found that even with one layer, it did appear nice and bright straight away! With Embellishment, I found that as it dried, it would not be one even colour and in the centre of my lip, it was not as opaque as the edges. However, if you have followed my blog in the last month or so, you might remember my quest for the perfect purple lipstick. Now although Embellishment was not as opaque as Paparazzi was, I liked how this looked on me and I think I am getting closer to finding that elusive perfect purple.

I haven't tried Barry M lip products in a really long time and I tend to only go to them for nail polish but I was reasonably impressed with these liquid lipsticks overall and I think I might try a few of the other different colours. I know that you get get two of these products in a 'Kylie Jenner' style lip kit which includes a lip-liner  - maybe they should do these for all of them for worried hands. Now I don't have any swatches but Ree from ReallyRee has done full swatches of a lot of the range in really good quality. I'm still having big problems with photographing swatches but I am working on it!

I hope you enjoyed this review and if you have also tried any of the liquid lipsticks from the Matte Me Up range please let me know in the comments - I love reading your thoughts! I hope everyone is coping with the heat (for those not in the UK - it is boiling for us right now, I'm in London so it's even hotter!) and enjoying the start of summer!

Ellyn xx
